The only one who will never betray us

During our lives, we often talk about the betrayals that we get from other people. We talk about how a friend, a partner or anyone we know may have betrayed us. I am personally one of the people who do this a lot, so I am not trying to judge you, if you do this too. The thing is that the biggest traitors in our lives are actually ourselves (Diakonima, 2022).

This happens for many reasons. I will just mention some examples. God often brings many gifts in our lives and we actually may not actually taking them and using them for our own good (Diakonima, 2022). In addition, God brings people useful for us and who can benefit us. Nevertheless, many times we may reject these people or even choose to be with people who harm us instead.

I will mention some more specific examples in my life. First of all, I wasn’t raised in a very religious family and I was taught many values which are different from what religion teaches. I did have an inherent conscience (it is given to us from God), so I had the ability to understand what is actually right and what is wrong. For example, when I first saw society promoting using people (e.g. via the hookup culture), I understood that this was wrong. I wasn’t stupid. I could understand that using people is wrong. When I saw that society promotes this, I just thought that people are mean or something. In the west, this is mostly true for the people who rule us and create the social rules, even if it isn’t true for people in general.

The thing is that I have come to realise that sometimes you may actually manage to get a person genuinely believe that something wrong is right and vice versa. I realized that when I was a young kid, for example, I often believed that many things are correct simply because mum says them. When my mum told me that lying isn’t bad, I just believed her. It was as simple as that.

I also have a tendency to occasionally blindly obey to things that society says, if I receive a lot of societal pressure. Finally, I also observed that I have been a victim of brainwashing. When I was around 15, I was brainwashed that abortion is not bad and I GENUINELY started believing that it was not bad. Honestly, I make so many complaints of people betraying me, but I think that I am actually capable of doing the same. I usually behave well because I am a good person (I think that I am at least. People who know me agree). However, I am definitely capable of doing bad things e.g. if I received a very big amount of pressure by society or if I am brainwashed.

Even Peter denied Jesus 3 times. The same person was willing to sacrifice his life for Him and he did this. This is how he died. I don’t know if this means that being willing to sacrifice your life doesn’t mean that you are not capable of betraying something or if Peter repented and became more willing to sacrifice things for Jesus later. In any case, you see where this is going. We are all capable of everything.

I was even setting myself for harm in the past. I had some psychological issues who made me be attracted to men who treated me badly. This is definitely self betrayal. I probably really hated myself. What I am trying to conclude is that we are all sinners and we all make mistakes and are capable for betrayals. Even the fact that others betray you may be your responsibility. I was the one who was tolerating being around people who treated me badly and then I was complaining about the things that they were doing to me. If you don’t like something, don’t tolerate it. If you do, you should understand that you are responsible for your actions and you partly have responsibility for the things that happen to you.

There is one and only one person who is not a sinner and will never betray you. This person is Jesus (Diakonima, 2022). We can all turn to Him, when we are fed up from betrayal or we finally want something that is good for us.
