Yes, this is my story. I am the author of the posts in this website! I am some sort of convert to orthodoxy too. I grew up in an orthodox country, but I wasn't very close to the church. In my family they went to church rarely and they didn't want to follow the way of life that the church taught.
However, as I started getting older, I started thinking about this more. I thought "How can I say that I am a christian, but at the same time choose to follow the rules of Christ whenever I want and whenever this suits me? Can I possibly be a true christian, if I behave like this?". This made me question whether my way of life was good.
I also thought that following all the rules that Jesus says would be beneficial for my salvation and I started being more curious about them and about why the church tells some people to follow certain rules. I had a discussion with a priest and he helped me understand why the church tells people to follow certain rules (see the post "Why orthodoxy?" for more details). This made me understand their importance and I decided to start obeing them!
